Someone else's bug..

It turns out that upgrading Image::ExifTool fixed the image corruption problem. Applying the GPS tags was inserting invalid tags into the jpeg files.

CPAN is full of wheels..

CPAN (Comprehensive Perl Archive Network) is a goldmine of useful perl modules. Like Apache::Imager::Resize,
which does all of the heavy lifting of resizing and caching images for a photo
gallery.

As a result, I now can easily display all of the pictures in an album beneath the map.

Next would be some Javascript to pan to a picture when you click on the picture..

A few small gallery updates.

I made a few updates to the Italy photos.

(some) EXIF information is displayed, now.
Images have been properly rotated.
High HDOP points on the GPS tracks have been filtered out, and the photos re-geotagged.

I was hoping that filtering the GPS tracks for high HDOP points would get rid of some of the geotagging errors (like in the Volterra
album), but it didn't seem to.

I think I will import the GPS track into GRASS and see if I can't massage it a bit. It'll also give me a chance to merge in data from my heart rate monitor, and make
pretty pictures of me trying to keep up with Tam cycling up Tuscan hills.

Remaining albums up..

I've merged position information into about 1469 of the 1908 photos that we took in Italy, and uploaded them to the website. The GPS data needs some
massaging, but at least we can look at everything, now.

There are a few remaining things that I'd like to do:

Display the EXIF tags
Display the GPS tracks
Rotate the pictures properly
handle the resizing of pictures in mod_perl
allow edit-in-place for tags, and comments

Pictures from Venezia (Venice)

I've merged the GPS tracks into the exif tags for the (most) of the pictures we took in Venezia (Venice) on September 19th, and September 20th.

The geotagging albums requires work:

Display EXIF tags
Display GPS tracks
Display picture icons instead of the deault google markers

I copied the c/ autohandler into p/ and told it to query id instead of category. And then there were permalinks. I love HTML::Mason.

Minor Website Updates

I've set up an IDS at i.mudshark.org for images. It does a reasonably good job of resizing images, providing a gallery, etc. Although linking directly to
the image cache probably isn't wise, as the links will all break whenever the
cache is cleared.. Hmm.

I also cleaned up the CSS a bit to pad images and the post footer properly. I'm still using align attributes to the img tags, which the w3m tells me are
deprecated. Oh well. Something to fix later when I'm not so clueless about CSS.

Addendum to dawn of a new list.

More annoyances.

Fix the concatination of words over line breaks. s/\n/ /g.
favico.ico isn't working.
text isn't padded properly on posts (in the posted/category lines).
Pick better colours.
Have a link back to / in the navigation menu.

Dawn of a new list.

After looking around the internet for a while, I've decided that I don't know much about RSS/ATOM. I'm sure there is a good summary, somewhere. Here is the current list of features I'd like to add.

add dhandlers for supporting permanent links:
- /atom/$date/$title for XML::ATOM
- /rss/$date/$title for RSS
Left bar
- Only display root categories, parents of current category, and peers of current category. This is almost done in the fork for novus ordo, so I'll pilfer those changes back.
Right bar
- Calendar sorting on posts/day.
- Links extracted from the current content using HTML::Treebuilder
Better posting interface
- Spell checking.
- Support for updates. Without having issue SQL by hand.
- web updates? email updates? sms updates?
Allow comments in a sane manner.
Support talkbalk links.
Fix layout issues.
Dublin core RDF.
Creative Commons licenses.
FOAF.
Images in post entries. I'm not sure how exactly to do this. Allow attachments to posts? Or just cheat and drop the pictures somewhere else and use IMG tags?

Imagemaagick should support this...

It might have been easier to use something else other than png2ico:http://www.winterdrache.de/freeware/png2ico/ to generate favicon.ico. png2ico:http://www¬winterdrache¬de/freeware/png2ico/ doesn't support greyscale pngs. In a fit of stupidity, I flailed Imagemacgick:http://www.imagemagick.org around trying to convert the png into something png2ico:http://www¬winterdrache¬de/freeware/png2ico/ would digest, but ended up just writing out a RGB png using the gimp:http://www.gimp.org.
