UHF 9

We're off to the Vernon UHF ultimate tourney Friday right after work.

Should be fun. Sister-in-law Ann picked up with an Edmonton team, and Adam seems to have wormed his way onto a Calgary team.

You Can't Teach Tall

I love playing Ultimate. Except maybe except when we're playing a team that fields a woman looking about 7 months pregnant. That's rather unsettling.

Our first game included a player that everyone our team had a different story about. I can only aspire to such infamy.

Our second game was against a team captained by a friend that we used to play on Starry Eyed Bandits with. She managed to put together a team of tall, fast, good players. A frustrating combination, if they weren't so fun to play with.

Let's make the water turn black

Sun in February in Vancouver. Perfect weather for playing Hat League Ultimate.

For the most part, the play today was pretty good. The only notable instances of lameness was when an opposing player decided to make a good hard backhanded throw when I was marking them, and smacked me in face. The rules state that incidental contact occurring during follow-through(after the disc has been released) is not sufficient grounds for a foul, unless the contact constitutes harmful endangerment.

This if course, is a large grey area. I thought, at the time, that smacking people in the face is harmful endangerment. Perhaps because my face was still stinging. At this point, another player from the offending team decided that I obviously didn't understand the rules, and that it was their duty to explain them to me.

The foul was contested, and the play was run again.

Ultimate is a game that will find the players on the ground in glorious(gratuitous) bids for the disc. This leads to very muddy players at this time of year. A mark of pride, I suppose..
