Saturday and Sunday were the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival. The race site was based out of Science World again this year -- a much better venue than Plaza of Nations.

After OC6 practice on Saturday morning, I jogged by the site to check it out. It was all fenced off, and the only enlightenment that I got was that most people, even dragonboat paddlers, can't tell the difference between an outrigger paddle and a dragonboat paddle.

I didn't compete this year. I was over in Victoria on Sunday morning to cheer on the Victoria Half Iron relay teams. When I saw the picture of the False Creek Men's Team on the front page of the Vancouver Sun on Monday, I recalled that I pulled a faster time at one of the team selection time trials than a few of the people sitting in the boat.

I'm not sure I miss paddling the festival. I does make me feel a bit better knowing that I could have probably made the team if I'd wanted to, though..
